It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Burlington. And lately, we’ve been finding that a growing number of home buyers are falling in love with the city, too.

It might be the sky-high prices in Toronto, which have many residents heading for more affordable pastures. It could also have something to do with the recent accolades Burlington has received from the likes of Macleans. Whatever the reason, we’re happy to see so many people discovering one of Ontario’s truly great cities—and we’d like to share a few things that make us so devoted to the area.

Here are five reasons we believe Burlington is such an incredible place to live…

1) The Location

Are you hopelessly devoted to Toronto? Burlington might change your mind. One of the biggest draws for home buyers is our proximity to Canada’s largest city. Living here means being able to drive just 45 minutes to Toronto, whether it’s for work, weekend shopping, or a night on the town.

Of course, that’s not all. You can make it to Hamilton, with its buzz-worthy arts and cultural scene, in just 20 minutes. The Niagara Region, Kitchener and Waterloo, and the entire GTA are also easily accessible. Don’t drive? Burlington’s ultra-convenient GO Stations make getting around a breeze.

2) The Waterfront

For many Burlington residents, the waterfront is the city’s focal point. Very few downtowns offer such stunning lakeside vistas—and residents take full advantage of them.

Attractions on the lake include the Brant Street Pier (which provides stunning views), Beachway Park (with its gorgeous white sand), and Discovery Landing (where you’ll find one of the city’s most beloved restaurants). There are also eight (yes, eight) parks located along the waterfront.

3) The Outdoors

Speaking of parks, Burlington has a lot of them. There’s also an abundance of conservation areas and nature trails, not to mention some fantastic bike paths.

When it comes to parks, Spencer Smith—a lakefront oasis in the heart of downtown—is what most people think of first. But the number of green spaces in the city is long, and it includes several (like City View Park) that are over 25 hectares. Burlington is also home to a section of the spectacular Bruce Trail, and the largest botanical garden in Canada!

4) The Food Scene

Toronto may be known for its vast and diverse mix of restaurants, but Burlington has a vibrant food scene all its own. There’s not nearly enough space to name all of our favourite local eateries, but here are just a few we love.

There are few things as satisfying as a perfectly-prepared pizza, and Son of a Peach serves them up with artisanal ingredients. Sakai is the go-to for sushi that’s a cut above, while Burro is the perfect place for flavourful tacos (and maybe a nice tequila-based cocktail or two).

5) The Homes

Looking for a spacious, character-filled heritage home on the lake? How about a beautifully-maintained bungalow on a tree-lined street? Or maybe a chic condo at the centre of it all is more your style.

Whether you’re seeking family-friendly or youthful and of-the-moment, small-town charm or big-city vibrance, you’ll find it in Burlington. You just have to know what you want—and where to look. Are you ready to discover what this city has to offer?
